One way to reduce duplicated efforts in IDX is to verify downloaded files. This is especially important during development, where the IDX builder may be ran hundreds of times a day, testing individual IDX functionality. In that instance, before downloading the IDX files, check to see if they exist. If they're the same size on the server as on the FTP, you don't need to download them. On slower links, this trick will save you a lot of time.
